Do you guys cope using events from your childhood that feel nostalgic now but at the time they occurred you felt as if they were truly horrible and would never think of them again once they are over.

I feel that way about certain events.

I look back now and think what would I do to go back in time and relive those events despite how horrible they were when they occurred? Compared to what I am dealing with now I sometimes think would trading places with that time be good? Should I do it in a heartbeat if possible?

But reality is its not possible. You can't go back in time when things were horrible but not to the way they are now. Wanting to go back to a time of less horrors is a dream I have sometimes but one that is impossible to achieve.

I have no choice but to look forward to a better future.

Even though there are only a few good memories from my childhood, I still think can't seem to let go of memories of it.

I'm not a nostalgic person. I barely think of positive stuff from the past, but I do think of various moments of failure or embarrassment and try to gain some insight from them.

Yea there were some good moments, periods where my parents actually tried staying clean for me or actually showed they loved me. but they always ended up taking drugs again until it got so bad my teacher noticed and called the cops on them.

Those moments are painful and will haunt you forever. But you vow never to repeat those mistakes. In my case a recent big mistake was finding owlwhores (Hooters girls) to be attractive and good foids. One of the biggest mistakes I ever made. I advise everyone don't go near a Hooters it will do you some good.

You can get over them. They actually don't haunt me anymore although they still do pop into my mind but not in a haunting manner. The way I got rid of the haunting effect was a few years ago, I came up with this psychological tool that I call "ego-torture", and it basically just means that you overload your consciousness with all the haunting stuff you have simultaneously and just accept them as true and let them do their worst. I've done it once maybe 3 years ago and it was an intense experience but since then I haven't been haunted by that stuff; it's more like just something to analyze now without my ego getting hurt by it.
