Its important to note that I am not advocating for socialism or Communism, merely using them as historical examples which illustrate a broader point that transcends any ideological considerations.

That notwithstanding, I actually admire the power and the patriarchal nature of the Soviet Union. If you watch those old videos of the Victory Day parades in Red Square you will see that the entire Politburo and presidium of the Communist Party of the USSR consisted exclusively of old, white men who were all heavily decorated veterans of the Great Patriotic War. I do believe that one could make the argument that Communism in its Soviet manifestations was in many ways functionally indistinguishable from the sorts of other totalitarian ideologies which we all regard with reverence and awe. As a former professor of political science and theory I can tell you that the ideological continuum is not linear but rather circular and that when one goes far enough to either the left or the right, things begin to take on a very similar look and feel, hence the pragmatic expediency of the Hitler-Stalin Pact and other such agreements.
