horror as a genre of book movie or comic/manga is used to put fear in the hearts of people and I will explain why it works horror evolves as fears evolves horror in its earliest form was folk stories of monsters if you look at enough of these folk stories they have two things that made them scary to the people of that time period 1 a religious aspect and 2 a animal aspect this time period was a far cry from the the modern secular world we live in today a lot of these stories play on the religious fears of these people in this time period that's why many of these folk stories talk about demons or jinn in the case of Arabia or oni in the case of Japan and the second reason being the animistic reason in this time period being killed by wild life was much more common then now and that's why so many of these early folk stories had monsters with animistic elements now you may be asking what about the modern period well I will explain that as well in the modern period people are more afraid of now what the public sees as maniacs and psychos this is because of the media though out the 70s 80s and 90s blowing up stories like dahmer Bundy John wayne gacy and Ed gein this has inspired many cult classics like psycho the texas chainsaw massacre and Friday the 13th this is why true crime has become as popular as it is what do y'all think
