Greased cartridges were a symbol of British rule over India. They were iconic and caused internal divide among the Indian sepoys. They were laced with the fat of pigs and cows hindering on the soldiers religious beliefs in a time and geographic region were religious beliefs were tightly held sacred thus leading to the sepoy rebellion.
Nearly two centuries later would reenacting the loading of the greased cartridge by putting it in the Enfield Rifle and putting the top in one's mouth like they did during British rule and then loading the gunpowder into the rifle itself be considered a form of historical reenactment comparable to a musket demonstration from the American Revolutionary War era?
The part that contained the fat of pigs and cows was where a solider had to make oral contact.

thanks I didnt know this story.
Maybe is the reason why azov was doing these videos where they greased with porkfat the various bullets, it was when chechen warlord entered the action. I thought it was simply a funny joke about muslims, it was thought to be fun to send them to hell or something.
I didnt know its such a big deal, afterall the local muslims we have here deal with pork meat and only exclusively eat pork meat, its also their source for kebaps. in germany these muslims also invented a kebab variant with porkmeat only. So I thought that was a muslim rule they didnt even follow nor care about.

It caused a lot of internal divide. The British sepoys (soldiers) found out on their own they were having oral contact with fat of pigs and cows. In order to open a greased cartridge you had to put it in your mouth and the bite the top of with your teeth. That top was greased with the fat of pigs and cows. A lot of the British soldiers were devout Hindus and Muslims and this infringed on their religious beliefs igniting extreme fury at the British officers whom they once dearly respected.

Some Muslims are only Muslim by name and don't even practice so I'm not surprised in Germany they would invent such a dish. Kebabs here in the U.S. are usually made from beef but some restaurants make them from chicken because beef is more expensive and their usual customers would not pay that much for food.Sustacel250 wrote: 07 Mar 2026, 03:00 thanks I didnt know this story.

However the Indian sepoys were a whole other story they were extremely devout to their faith. Both Muslim and Hindu soldiers. Pork is the most forbidden meat in islam and cows are sacred to hindus. This was a big deal at that time and caused the British East India company to have a falling out with their sepoys (soldiers).
